Charter limit? More schools coming to Gary - Post-Tribune
Some say charter schools deplete Gary Community School Corp. dollars but it is unclear whether or not it is an unnecessary depletion. Charter school supporters say there is a waiting list of students for local charter schools so more charter schools are needed. There will be a meeting held on the issue 5:30 p.m. Thursday at the Steel City Buffet on West Fifth Avenue in Gary.

Personally, what parent would not want their child attending a school where personal attention per pupil is promoted? There should be more college prep high schools in the city to make sure every student is prepared for college academics and get an opportunity to attend college.

Students and parents are customers, as each student has a dollar amount attached to their placement in a school. Since charter schools are public schools, competition should be fierce for each student and the quality of education should rise. Isn't that what we, the people, want? We are a capitalist society.
